It isn't hugely in-depth but it's enjoyable. The stages are all trips down memory lane which integrate elements of SEGA's history in engaging ways, while the character roster is relatively eclectic and lively. The thing isn't particularly difficult but it doesn't need to be. It adds a layer of complexity, however small, to the otherwise straight-forward gameplay. Drifting is the core principle of the game's design, actually. There's also an all-star system which allows players to perform a powerful, character-specific move when they build up enough power by performing drifts and in-air tricks. It plays like a traditional kart racer, with power-ups and weapons dotted around the tracks. Parents need to know that Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is an arcade racing game in the same vein as Mario Kart. But winning is only part of the fun in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing! Each character has a specific All Star move – such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado – that allows a quick way for competitors to get back into the race! Each character will speed around the track in cars, planes, motorbikes, and in Aiai’s case – a banana mobile!
